Natural Methods for Headache Relief

By: Darren Williger

Most people get headaches on a regular basis. This is usually a whole lot of people and these headaches tend to occur for a whole lot of reasons. However, there are some very quick and easy ways in which headaches can be prevented. The following techniques listed below are usually effective in the treatment of common tension headaches.

Try these proven techniques for headache relief:

Stand Up Straight. You should try to avoid leaning or placing your head in one particular direction.

Go cold. Most people feel that if they have a cold feeling on their heads then they feel a whole lot less pain with the headache symptoms.

Breathe deeply. If you breathe deeply then you may get some relief from your headache symptoms

Stop Tensing Up. If you’re constantly exhibiting signs of tension such as clenched teeth, clenched fists or hunched shoulders, you might be well on the way to developing a headache for yourself.

Try Self-Massage or Acupressure. These two methods are actually great ways of relieving yourself from headaches. You should try to squeeze the area between your forefinger and your thumb and massaging under the bony ridges which are at the back of your neck.

Wear a headband. You may feel that this is a whole lot of crap but it actually works. These headbands actually reduce the amount of blood that flows into your scalp area and the pain that ultimately results from a migraine.

Seek Quiet Regions. Being in an area that has a whole lot of noise can cause a lot of tension headaches too. You should spend some time in a quiet area and this way you get relief from headaches.

Watch Your Eyes. You should take the time to protect your eyes from lights and these bright lights include the lights from television screens as well as monitors and video gaming systems. These devices all make people squint and they also cause eyestrain and headaches too. You can also wear sunglasses in order to avoid the glare from these screens. You can take a break and avoid straining your eyes whenever you’re at work or you’re at home.

Watch The Caffeine. When you don’t have enough caffeine in your blood your blood vessels dilate and this causes a headache. Drinking too much caffeine does the same thing as well, make sure you take only one or two caffeine drinks in a day.

Avoid Gum. Repetitive chewing of gum can make the muscles in your face tighten and which may ultimately cause a tension headache.

Reduce Your Salt Intake. Salt tends to cause migraines in a whole lot of people.

Don’t Starve Yourself. If you go hungry whether this hunger is brought on by a diet or you fail to take the time out to get something to eat, you can cause muscle tension. Muscle tension usually leads to a drop in blood sugar levels. This drop may also cause the blood vessels which are located in your brain to tighten. If you eat it leads to rapid expansion of these vessels and this causes a headache.

Avoid Processed Lunch Meats and Hot Dogs. These types of food usually have nitrates in them. These nitrates dilate blood vessels and this can cause headaches.

Stay Away From Tyramine – This chemical can usually be found in chocolate, red wine, nuts and a number of hard cheeses too. The chemical causes headaches in a number of people over the world.

Smile. People who frown on a constant basis tend to have a number of headaches too. Laughter tends to reduce stress and reduces tensions and headaches also.
